Most of our math series is based on whole group instruction. However, as teachers, we know that small group instruction can help differentiate by incorporating enrichment and remediation as appropriate. How do you set up your math block? I use whole and small groups when teaching math. I like that the kids can help each other when they are in small groups.

I am very eager to share ideas with each other. I would love to know how other teachers are setting up their rotations for math.

The number of skills required to teach in 5th grade makes it difficult to do the small group model. We have about one day per skill, if we want to get through all of them by the end of the year. I am trying to do as many small group activities as possible.

I am mixed on using whole group vs small group. I like the idea of mixing it up and doing a little of both.

I do both whole group instruction, and small group activities. I like that students can apply what they learned while in groups. I also like that I can differentiate the lessons and students can help each other. My class loves "Math Groups."

I do both whole group and the math rotations. However, I really find that it depends on what the class you have can handle. I love the connections and immediate feedback you can get in a small group...but find it sometimes difficult to manage with the class size and behavior.

I really enjoyed the discussion we had yesterday led by Chelsea. Although whole-group is my primary instruction method in math, small group work sounds very good. It gave me the urge to jump out and try it.

I was eager to learn more about math rotations after our flipped ER. I have rotations in my plans for the week after ISTEP. Can't wait to see how it goes! Leave a Reply. |
