I enjoyed the strategy of From the Heart. It would be a great technique to use to help get to know the students and build closer relationships.

Exit Slip: Are there really teachers who say "There's just no time for me to get to know my students"? In order to provide an adequate education, let alone differentiate, you must know what your students can and can't do. However, I think every class is a DI classroom, it just looks different from teacher to teacher. Thanks Kelly for all of the great ideas and materials! I enjoyed the information about IALAC and the Car Wash activities.

"To Teach A Student Well,aTeacher Must Know the Student Well." This is so important and a good reminder for all of us! Also important to remember our diverse learners and to give that extra processing time if needed.

I really like keeping the notecard on the kids' desk. What a great way for the parents to see good things their kid is doing.

Yes, I would love to start doing this! It is easy to forget, and a notecard is a great way to remember.

The activities discussed today remind me of the idea behind conscious discipline of creating community and a loving, caring foundation within the classroom. This was a good tie in.

I liked the "doctor is in" activity to address that sometimes fair doesn't mean equal.

I liked the "Carwash" idea for getting to know the students and building them up. It would work really well to go along with a dance we already know! Yeah!

Creating culture for DI is so important but often gets lost in all other demands of our day. I used to spend much more time developing emotional intelligence and feel like it is more necessary now than ever! I want to use some of these strategies to implement on day one of next year. I also love the DI ABC ~ Assess and adjust, Begin and Branch, Creative and Choice

From Topics to Top Picks is an interesting idea....creating groups according to student's interests. I also want to consider learning style's next year when we split our kids in groups.

Keeping a notecard on each student is a great idea....and actually referring to it throughout the year would be very useful. Many great ideas today that I will implement at the beginning of the school year to have that "culture of DI". Thanks, Kelly.

PG staff- you always give me a car wash when I'm here! I failed to mention a couple of things: the white handout has a lost of the top ten reasons to establish a culture for DI and I had a prize! Differentiated poetry task cards for a center were won by Katrina Benson. Congrats! I'm an email away if you need my help as you plan for next year! Leave a Reply. |
